HP
#950/#951and #932/#933 Cartridges
You need two sets of cartridges for refilling
and has to be rotated in the printer.
You will have set "A" and set "B".
Example. You will have two black cartridges. When "A" black runs empty take it
out and put in "B" black cartridge and then refill "A" black cartridge. When "B"
black cartridges runs empty then take it out and put in "A" cartridge.
Refilling Instructions:
1. Look at the end of the cartridge for a plastic ball that is
plugging up the filling hole.
2. Stand
the cartridge on end where the plastic ball is facing up.
3. Put the "L" tool on
top of the plastic filling hole ball and tap it with a hammer to knock the
plastic ball into the cartridge.
4.
Put the blunt needle onto the syringe and fill the syringe with ink.
Black 950 Cartridge will hold 20ml of
ink, High Capacity Black cartridge holds 40ml.
Color 951 Cartridge will hold 10ml of ink, High Capacity Color cartridge holds
20ml.
Black 932 Cartridge will hold 10ml of
ink, High Capacity Black cartridge holds 20ml.

5. Seal the filling hole with the rubber ball included with your refilling kit, by putting the rubber ball on top of the filling hole and press the rubber ball with the "L" tool until you feel it snap into place.
Note: On your second refill you do not need to knock the ball into the cartridge. Just screw the ball remover half way into the rubber ball and pull it out. If you did not tear up the rubber ball you can use it again to seal the hole.
6. When using a refilled cartridge "A" that reads empty you will get a pop up box:
7. Remove cartridge "A" and put in cartridge "B" and you will get:
8. Just click "No" on this box. Now you will get:
9. Just click "OK" on this box.
You are ready to print. If you have trouble printing because the chip reads empty then look at the chart below for an alternative.
In order to
get the cartridge to work again after refilling, the ink level
monitor must be switched off within the printer driver. |

information is on page 93 of the 8600 printer manual located
here: |
You can cycle cartridges through to reset the level. You will
need two extra cartridges and the one you refilled. First, put
the refilled cartridge in the printer. Allow it to recognize the
cartridge and print an alignment page. Take that cartridge out
and place in the first extra cartridge. Allow it to recognize
and print an alignment page. Take the first extra cartridge out
and place the second extra cartridge in. Allow it to recognize
and print an alignment page. Take the second extra cartridge
out. Place the refilled cartridge back in the printer. It will
print an alignment page and then the estimated ink level will be
reset to full.

The HP Officejet 8600 has a so called “cartridge
protection” feature. In the toolbox there is a tab named “HP
Cartridge Protection”, where you can choose if you want to
enable or disable this function. The default setting here is
“enable” which results in the cartridges to work only in this
particular printer. If you install the cartridges treated with
this “protection” feature in another printer, they will not work
and a message pops up. Go to http://www.refillinstructions.com/HP/H03.JPG to see a snapshot of customer information dealing with this topic. We have tested the instruction about how to switch off the ink level indicator before it was released to our customers. So the only reason for the above mentioned problem I could think of is the “protection” feature. |
A Refill Kit should include Ink plus
the following: One 30cc Syringe for each color with blunt needle. One Ball Remover One 'L' Tool Three Black Balls for each color. |
