Refill Instructions
 Canon 250 and 251  Cartridges

Black & Color Cartridges

1. Cover the outlet hole with the orange outlet seal that came with the cartridge (a rubber band will hold this in place) or with your finger over the outlet port while wearing latex gloves or with some vinyl tape to prevent ink loss during refilling.

2. Use the thumb drill provided to drill a hole into the "N" of Canon. This will be your filling hole.

3. Attach the needle to the syringe and fill with the correct color ink.

4. Slowly inject approximately 6 ml of Black Ink or 3 ml of Color Ink slowly into the filling hole. Wait about 15 seconds for the sponge to absorb some of the ink. Now add an additional  2 ml of Black Ink or 1 ml of Color Ink until the chamber is full. Unused ink may be returned to the bottle.
Note: On the XL cartridge the first 'Empty' chamber has an additional 1cc of ink.
On the XXL cartridge the first and second 'Empty' chambers has an additional 2cc of ink.

5. Leave the drilled hole exposed or cover it up, it will make no difference.

7. Remove the orange outlet seal (or your finger, or the vinyl tape) from the outlet hole (unless you are storing the cartridge for future use).

8.  Replace the cartridge and run 1 - 3 cleaning cycles as per printer instructions.
Or print the following pages:

For best results, leave cartridge in printer for 8 hours after refilling so the ink can saturate the entire sponge.

Note: There is a chip on the cartridge that keeps track of the ink level. Once a cartridge is refilled and put back into the printer, the cartridge will read the same level as it did before you refilled it. Continue to use that cartridge until the printer's readout screen says "The Ink has run out, Replace the ink tank". At that point "STOP" will light up along with the triangle circle that is just below it. Press and hold the triangle circle until the ""STOP" light and triangle circle light goes out. Now that color cartridge chip is turned off and you can continue to print.
You might have to do this twice to get it to work. If the cartridge is taken out of the printer and reinstalled you will have to do the procedure again.

You can check the other ink levels by scrolling over to "SETUP" press it on the readout screen then scoll to "Estimated Ink Levels" and press it.

A Refill Kit should include Ink plus the following:
3 - 10cc Syringes for Color with sharp needles
