How to Check Printer Ink Levels

This dry ink can cause smudged printing and clog the nozzle. Moreover, if the ink begins to dry, the printer tends to use more ink to produce standard results. Sometimes the printer issues warnings if the ink is running low to indicate the need for replacement of the cartridge. These warning may at times be a false alarm to trick you into changing the cartridge early. What you can do to avoid confusion is perform periodic checks and replace cartridges when required to increase the functionality of the printer.

How to check printer ink levels

Every brand of printer, be it Brother, HP or Canon, comes with its own settings and a manual. Moreover, the operating system employed on your personal computer or laptop also determines how you can check your printer ink levels. There are numerous methods available to perform this task. You can use any one of the two common methods: The device driver method or the Control panel method.

The device driver method: Every printer comes with device driver software installed onto the connected computer during the printer installation process. During installation, a shortcut to the printer management interface is created automatically on the desktop. You must double click this icon to open the interface. The options enlisted in the interface will vary depending on the manufactures. The most common way to check your ink levels is to click on the ‘settings’ option within the interface and then click on the ‘device services’ or ‘printer services’ option. Locate the option ‘Estimated ink levels’ in the dropdown menu or in the new window and click on it. This will display the approximate ink levels in your printer.

The control panel method: To begin, click on the ‘start’ button and then on ‘control panel’ from the presented options. When the control panel opens in the new window, click on the ‘devices and printers’ option. A new window will open and enlist the different devices attached to the computer. Now right click on the printer you want to check and select ‘service devices’. Of the options displayed now, click on ‘estimated ink level’ to view the ink levels in your printer.

What to do when printer ink is low

Most often, the estimated ink levels and the low-ink warning signs are only approximations. When the cartridge is low on ink, you can try to remove the cartridge from the slot and rock it from side to side. This will cause any residue ink to flow to the bottom for use. This way, you can obtain a few more prints before the ink runs-out completely. Once the ink is completely exhausted, you can buy either an OEM cartridge or a remanufactured one, which costs approximately half as much as an OEM cartridge. You can also choose a more affordable alternative and buy your printer ink from us, we offer free shipping on bulk orders.

In conclusion, it is best for you to continue printing until the quality of the print begins to decline. A poor quality print is an apt indicator of the low ink levels in your printer. Ensure that, at such times, the cartridge is replaced to avoid unwelcome consequences. Conduct periodic checks of ink levels to keep your printer functioning at optimum levels.
